A summary of so far.........
21st April 2013
Well, we are now just over 12 weeks away from possibly the biggest challenge some of us will ever strive to achieve, and I am happy to announce that things are coming together.
After a very hard last few weeks with the weather, I think it is safe to say that the training schedules became slightly more relaxed than before christmas, but in our defence, it's not easy getting out at 6.30 am on a Sunday morning in sub zero temperatures and gale force winds!
We did it though..........big up Team SOS!
Now that the weather has improved, so has the level of training! Strava (the program we use to record our rides) is literally buzzing with records and personal bests being set daily, and the improvement in all of us is fantastic. Most riders are now cycling 3 to 4 times a week, covering around 100 miles each week. Admittedly we will be doing this daily on our challenge, but we have been expertly advised (thanks Tom) that back to back rides and time in the saddle is vital.
All of the group now have a 50 mile single ride under their belt, with some travelling even further! Considering that more than half of us only took up riding in October last year, I think that is a feat in itself!
Thankfully the weather is finally improving and the evenings becoming lighter, so the time available to train has grown significantly. Cycling in warner conditions is definitely more comfortable, and dare I say.....a little easier? Everyone now has their new bikes, with Specialized being the most popular make. I have to say however that the two Trek machines look so much better!!!!!!
The spirits in camp SOS are high, and the excitement is building! We should all be proud of what has been achieved so far. The dedication shown by all financially, physically, and mentally has been amazing, and personally I am unbelievably proud of every single one of us.
In a very short space of time we have grown from a group of very close friends who have suffered a tragic loss, to a team or family (choose whichever you feel is appropriate) who has dedicated a year of their lives to achieve something that almost none of us would ever dreamed of doing! We have raised over £12,900 for three fantastic causes, and hopefully have been able to bring some form of happiness to those who have needed it so badly in the last few months.
As long as all of us, and everyone around us, believe that we can achieve what we are setting out to do, we is gonna be fine:)
Keep peddling team.........
